EXPLORATION 2006 is an informative and discerning weekend of worship, Bible study, prayer, workshops and small group discussions for young people - high-school seniors through age 24 - who are exploring a call to ordained ministry. If you have sensed that God might be calling you to ordained ministry, wondered what ministry in The United Methodist Church is all about, or would like some help sorting through the issues surrounding a Christian vocation, this is the gathering for you.

The Florida Conference Office is offering a limited amount of scholarships for this event. We would love to see a number of High School Seniors attend from the Conference since the event is being held in Jacksonville. The cost of the event is the travel expense plus $150.00 (this includes meals, housing and registration). The Conference scholarship will help with half of the registration fee, which would be $75.00.

We are asking the YOUTH MINISTER or COORDINATOR to fill out the information below. Please email Kelly Moore (kmoore@flumc.org) the information asked for below by September 22. We will decide on the Scholarships by September 25. We will mail a check for the total amount of scholarships given to the church. For example, if you have 3 participants going and the Conference Office awards all three of those students’ scholarships, we would send you a check for $225.00.

Every year local congregations send high school graduates off to our college campuses to begin a new chapter in their lives. It is an experience that is often challenging and somewhat daunting for many students. It is also a time when these young adults make the most life choices.

Our Wesley Foundations and collegiate ministries (see the list below) are in place to help students deal constructively with the new pressures they will face and provide a community that will strengthen their faith and help them connect with friends, build healthy relationships and discover where God is leading them in life.

In order to reach out to these students and offer that nurturing community, our campus units need your help in identifying incoming freshman from your churches. Please take some time in the next few weeks to send us the names and contact information for your graduating seniors. Please e-mail the names of your students to kmoore@flumc.org and include the school they are attending and how to connect with them (either e-mail or postal address).
