Everything Must Change
Brian McLaren to visit St. Petersburg
The Florida Conference’s Connectional Ministries office is sponsoring a stop on Brian McLaren’s “Everything Must Change†tour next month in St. Petersburg.
Included on the tour are events in 11 cities. The only stop in Florida is Feb. 29-March 1 at First Baptist Church in St. Petersburg.
McLaren says the church is experiencing a “deep shift†as leaders and members seek to discern how to be a Christian in today’s church and world. The tour and associated resources strive to answer such questions as:
• What does it mean to be a follower of God in the way of Jesus in today’s world?
• What does it mean to be a faith community engaged in the holistic, integral mission of God in our world today?
• How do we, as individuals and faith communities, respond faithfully to the crises facing our world?
The on-site tour experience will include opportunities to hear and respond to new material from McLaren; time for Q&A and dialogue; a book-signing and -release party for McLaren’s newest book, “Everything Must Change: Jesus, Global Crises, and a Revolution of Hope,†available at a special introductory price; and new music, liturgical experiences and other resources attendees can use in their faith communities, created with Tracy Howe ( www.restorationvillage.com).
A portion of the gathering’s proceeds will go toward helping a local peace/justice mission or charitable project chosen with the help of the host and a global project chosen with the co-sponsors.
Participants also have the opportunity for off-site dialogue and are encouraged to prepare for the tour by going online to FirstShift experience at deepshift.org
Event details, registration information and costs are available at deepshift.org.
The Source
Are you in need of spiritual and ministerial rejuvenation? Come to The ‘Source, a yearly gathering for adult workers focused on enhancing personal spiritual growth and exploring new resources for ministries with youth and young adults.
This year’s focus is leadership development. Time at The ‘Source will allow you to grow in your own leadership skills for effective ministry and discover new ways to empower youth and young adults as leaders in their immediate contexts (school, military, work, home, church).
A source of learning and inspiration for adults who work with young people, The ‘Source is the place where all adult workers, paid and volunteer, can find meaning and relevance for life and ministry.
There will also be time for “snapshots” on ministry - a time set aside for workshops, networking and resource sharing.
And don’t miss Living Waters, the optional half day guided retreat following the Saturday event. At Living Waters you’ll dig deeper and reflect more broadly on your personal spiritual journey before returning home.
